After 16 years in corporate climbing the ladder, running 8-figure brands, developing products, leading teams, managing marketing agencies, traveling the world, and doing everything we were supposed to do, we both felt burnt out and uninspired in what our future held.
We always talked about going out on our own, dreaming up ideas and feeling excited about the possibilities.
Our transition from employee to entrepreneur wasn’t easy.

About
Internally, I was struggling. While the work was amazing, I was being sexually harassed, which took a toll on my emotional well-being, and after a series of events,
I was let go.
I was okay, I needed space to heal my mind, regain my confidence and prioritize my family.
I joined a small recruiting firm, as a career coach and recruiter for marketing executives. In that moment, I fell in love with coaching.
When I was helping people achieve their goals, I felt alive, I was in my zone.
This experience was the bridge between my two worlds… the first one that built marketing expertise and business acumen and the one I am passionate about today, coaching and mentoring.
All roads led me here, and I’ve committed myself to teaching entrepreneurs the business strategies and methods they need to discover their true potential, and finally build a business that supports their dreams.
I was 35 years old and a mom to two little girls [3 & 1].
I lost my mom to cancer just two weeks before I left for college, learning a hard lesson at 17 that nothing is ever guaranteed.
Following my diagnosis, my perspective on life, work, and family shifted. I started to reevaluate everything, mostly my time and impact.
Fast forward two years, with a clean bill of health, we went on to have another baby girl.
Professionally, I was on the rise, I was recognized by my company as a “High Achiever” and selected to attend an exclusive Executive Leadership Training program.
In 2013, with two little kids, I went in for a routine breast cancer screening, and they discovered a small mass. Two days later my phone rang, and while I was sitting on the stairs, staring up at Jake,
and I heard the words “it’s cancer”.
For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to do things my way, feeling like I didn’t quite fit the mold or have the desire to climb the corporate ladder.
I didn’t realize it, but my entrepreneurial inspiration sparked when [at 24 years old] I accepted a marketing position at Clif Bar & Company, and found myself exposed to a completely new way of doing business.
Clif was a literal entrepreneur's dream come true.
I was part of a small team, working to bring a larger vision to life, in a culture that embraced entrepreneurial thinking and creativity, and was fueled by purpose.
The eight years at Clif proved it’s possible to build something incredible from a simple idea, and playing by your own rules can lead to massive success, fulfillment and impact.
But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end…
I went onto work for more traditional organizations, rounding out my full marketing skill set, overseeing multi-million dollar brands, developing products, growing market share, pricing products, leading marketing agencies, and managing teams.

Meet Jake!
Hi there! I’m Jake Ulkus.
I have been involved in and obsessed with creating and building profitable brands and businesses since 2001. I have crafted and designed growth strategies for and with both small and large international organizations, entering markets across the world.
After a bit, I decided to head back to school and get my MBA. After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis with a Master of Business Administration with focus in Executive Leadership… I decided it was time to jump out and use my expertise to start building my own businesses.
It was then I started my first high-end brand and product marketing agency. We worked with some of the best known national brands here in the US… such as Anheuser Busch, Bud Light, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam and many more.
I soon decided that I wanted to get back to working with smaller brands and businesses to drive massive impact by focusing on strategic and customized moves to increase growth and maximize profits.
I sold the agency in 2016 and launched my first growth and profit consultancy… again, getting back to my roots and using the custom methods that I had developed years before.
And that is what I have been doing since, finding ways to help small business owners and solopreneurs turn
around their “slow to no growth” businesses through simple and effective custom growth strategies.
Helping them grow from 6-figure businesses to 7-figures… or in some cases pushing into 8-figures… but most importantly… doing it while keeping MORE MONEY, having LESS STRESS and spending FEWER HOURS making it all happen.
I don’t believe there is such a thing as a broken business… just bad strategy. The methodologies and strategies I have been able to develop allow those needing to get to the next phase in business, the ability to hit their goals without adding more to what is an already “complex” business.
Today I live in St. Louis, MO with my wife and business partner, Ashley, and our 3 amazing and beautiful girls. Together we run our growth consultancy and coaching company, Destined To Scale, while I continue to learn, perfect and deploy new strategies on a daily basis across clients businesses, as well as our own.
I spent 16 years in big Corporate marketing, running and managing global marketing and product teams for both consumer product and manufacturing companies.
In the later years of my corporate career, I was tasked at increasing the growth and market share of over 3500 of our local dealers and distributors, while using small localized budgets. This is where my passion for developing creative, strategic, efficient and profit focused growth initiatives truly began… and I started to identify and create the root of our current Destined To Scale methodologies we use today.
I have dedicated myself to helping those who are willing to look at their business in new ways, the guidance they need to build more with less, find simple ways to manage complex businesses, hit their financial goals… and do it while still having the time to enjoy the amazing results of what they created with the people they care about.
